Things to keep in mind

Yorkshire terriers are small dogs and even smaller puppies. If you notice any of the following, along with dehydration, acting weak or tired, not wanting to eat or drink, or just be your normal happy puppy, please consider taking a trip to your vet. 

Puppy Weight Loss

When your puppy goes to its new home, it could be experiencing anxiety from being in a new environment and missing its litter mates. It is expected for your puppy to loose some weight and it is completely normal, however, if your puppy looses more than eight ounces there may be a different issue at hand.

Diarrhea/Loose Stool

Quickly changing your puppies food is a common cause for loose stool or diarrhea in puppies. It is recommended when changing diets to do it slowly over time to reduce the chances of diarrhea. If there is no diet change and the puppy has loose stool or diarrhea then it could be a sign of stress, dehydration, eating something dangerous, viral infections, or bacterial infections.

Canine Parvovirus

The Canine Parvovirus is a very serious, highly contagious, viral disease that acts quickly. The Canine Parvovirus targets the heart, intestines and stomach. Some common signs and symptoms your puppies may experience; feeling cold, sudden onset high fever, not eating or drinking, extremely lethargic, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you notice these symptoms and think your puppy has Parvovirus, please call your vet immedeletly.

Kennel Cough

Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease. The most common place puppies and dogs catch this disease is in dog parks, dog day care facilities, training groups and dog shows. The most common symptom is a "honking" cough.

Worms

Worms can be very serious if untreated. Your puppy will already come dewormed, but it is very important to deworm your puppy/dog every 3 months. Your puppy can get worms from ingesting them, fleas, through their skin and outdoor activities. One of the most common symptom of worms is a bloated stomach.
